Moon Patrol at Time Rift Arcade

Moon Patrol puts you in the driver’s seat of a rugged lunar rover, bouncing and blasting your way across the crater-filled surface of the moon. Dodge landmines, leap over craters, and shoot down UFOs in one of the first side-scrolling shooters ever made. With its catchy soundtrack, colorful parallax backgrounds, and nonstop action, Moon Patrol was light-years ahead of its time. It’s a perfect blend of driving, shooting, and old-school challenge that defined early ’80s arcade fun. Strap in, space cadet — the moon’s a rough ride!

We acquired Moon Patrol from at Texas Pinball Festival from a private seller who was looking to part with it.  It was in decent shape, but had significant rot on the bottom of the cabinet.  Mike Murray did some basic repairs to stabilize the game’s cabinet but it did not get a complete restore.  He used wood hardener to stop the rot and reinforce the plywood sides, as well as added new feet to keep it off the ground.  The game also received a cap-kit.

March 13th, 2025: Replaced flyback and HOT
Technician: Mike Murray
This monitor on this game was dark.  Checked basics, found HOT (horizontal output transistor) had failed.  Flyback also failed.  It is common for the flyback to fail and take out the HOT.  Replaced flyback and HOT to restore monitor to operation.
